In a battle between a commercial truck and a car, the truck will always win because of the clear difference in size and weight. In fact, if truck drivers aren't careful, their vehicles can become a deadly threat to the rest of the vehicles on the road.
Take the recent Kentucky trucking accident where a car was struck and forced off of a 60-foot-high bridge by a dump truck. The incident occurred last week on eastbound I-275 in Fort Wright, Kentucky, and took the life of the driver of the car, a 61-year-old of Batavia.
According to witnesses, the dump truck had been traveling east in the center lane on I-275 when the 30-year-old truck driver merged into the left lane. This maneuver reportedly forced the 61-year-old victim's Ford Escort over the side of the bridge and down to another highway below.
It appears that the driver of the dump truck had been forced to merge left because of a striping truck that was painting lines on the right side of the highway. Witnesses said that it was clear that the driver of the dump truck did not see the Ford Focus in its path.
The driver of the dump truck has not been charged in the accident; however, a local news station reported that he has had five moving violations in the past twelve years for speed and failure to control.
When it comes to trucking accidents, negligence on behalf of truck drivers is the most frequent cause. Because of the sheer size and weight of commercial trucks, one wrong move by a truck driver can prove deadly, like in this case.
